Originally the Hibachi was a Japanese fireproof bowl used to heat rooms during winter. Over the years the ‘bowl’ was adapted and the use of Hibachi changed.<\/p>

The word shichirin actually means \u2018seven rin\u2019 \u2013 the archaic cost of a batch of cooking charcoal during the Edo period (1603-1867), when it is believed these grills were first introduced.<\/p>

Our design is based on the Shichirin concept from the Edo period. Originally a pot with charcoal and a grill on top.<\/p>\n

Our version is attractively encased in wood, the liner being made of a heat resistant material that creates an even temperature that is ideal for cooking table top style, for a small group to share.<\/p>\n

You can use ordinary charcoal or briquettes, however the traditional Japanese way is to use Binchotan charcaol, which burns for a very long time at a high tempreture and can even be reused. Click HERE<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The photo below demonstrates the ‘cool to touch’ nature of the inner lining. As you can see, the coals inside the Shichirin are red hot, however, the outside of the lining is cool to touch.<\/span><\/p>

This is one of the reasons why the Woods Shichirin is so unique.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
